 Previous release Media release index Next release May 27, Victoria, BC More than 700 members from housing co‑operatives across Canada are gathering in Victoria for the annual meeting of the Co‑operative Housing Federation of Canada, May 28-30. The meeting will take place at the Victoria Conference Centre. Victoria Mayor Dean Fortin, who will speak at the opening of the business meeting, has proclaimed May 30 Co‑operative Housing Day. Members will also hear from the federal government. Ed Komarnicki, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister responsible for CMHC, the Hon. Diane Finley, will be speaking to the business meeting on May 30 and presenting the CMHC award for outstanding contribution to co‑operative housing. At a time when Victoria is experiencing one of the lowest rental vacancy rates in Canada, with serious affordability problems, delegates will be attending workshops and debating resolutions on solutions to Canada’s affordable housing crisis. CHF Canada is the national voice of the Canadian co‑operative housing movement. Its members include nearly 900 non-profit housing co‑operatives and other organizations across Canada.
