Board, Council and committees

Board of Directors

CHF Canada is a co‑operative, owned and controlled by our members. The board of directors governs CHF Canada according to Canadian law and the by-laws and rules approved by the members. Directors are elected by the members at the annual meeting to oversee the operation of CHF Canada. The Board sets priorities for CHF Canada based on resolutions passed by the members on the AGM. The board hires and supervises the executive director.

Standing Committees

CHF Canada has three standing committees. Other work groups are created from time to time for specific tasks.

  • The goal of the Diversity Committee is to encourage fair and equal opportunity for all groups in the co‑op housing movement in Canada.
  • The Finance and Audit Committee’s role is to watch over CHF Canada’s finances on behalf of the membership. The committee advises the board and reports directly to the members.
  • The Risk Underwriting Fund (RUF) Administration Committee administers loan guarantees to help member housing co‑ops undertake development projects.
  • The mandate of the Aging in Place Committee is to help guide CHF Canada’s workplan on aging in place, supporting and identifying the needs of seniors in our housing co‑ops.

It delivers services that arise from these responsibilities and any other matters that affect only Ontario. The Ontario Council is elected at the annual meeting of Ontario members. The Council directs the work of the Ontario Region, based on direction given by members at the annual meeting.

Manitoba Advisory Forum

The Manitoba Advisory Forum provides a formal structure for liaison between CHF Canada and its members in Manitoba. Each member housing co‑operative in Manitoba is eligible to appoint two representatives to the Forum.
