CHF Canada provides a range of professional development opportunities for co‑op housing staff. As part of our AGM each year, we host a staff conference that delivers specialized education in co‑op management. We send speakers and workshop leaders to key staff events, develop educational materials on current issues, provide telephone advice, and tell co‑op boards about their responsibilities as employers. And we offer training workshops for co‑op staff in community development.

Since the start-up of our shared-revenue program in 1990, CHF Canada has shared hundreds of thousands of dollars with regional federations of housing co‑operatives. On request, we help federations create new services, providing technical advice and some financial assistance. We have developed a portable board course and planning workshop especially for federations, and every two years we host a bilingual conference for federation volunteers and staff from across the country. CHF Canada also we develop resource materials and instructors’ notes for federations to use in their education programs and provide training for trainers. Our Ontario Region provides information and advice to Ontario federations on provincial housing programs.

CHF Canada represents the interests of operational services groups, resource groups and land trusts to government. We work to help member groups and CHF Canada’s professional associates stay well informed about issues of concern to their clients.
