What’s new for 2012?

Niagara Falls – hope to see you there!

And there are plenty of ways to experience this majestic wonder of the world, including a boat ride through the waters below the falls and a walk around the world-famous gorge. But Niagara Falls is more than just the falls – there are eclectic restaurants, electrifying attractions, and wineries nestled below the nearby escarpment amid a landscape of vineyards. Situated just over an hour from the Toronto area, with convenient buses running from the airport, Niagara Falls is a destination not to be missed!

2012 – International Year of Co‑operatives

Celebrating Our International Year!

2012 is the International Year of Co‑operatives, and it comes with a perfect slogan: “Co‑operative enterprises build a better world.” Last year in St. John’s, members passed a resolution supporting IYC, and this will be our main focus in 2012. In Niagara Falls, we will showcase the many successes of co‑operative enterprise, look at best practices, and talk about the future of co‑ops – local, national, and global.

In celebration of the International Year of Co‑operatives, playwright Lindsay Kyte will speak about her family connection to the founders of the first credit union in English Canada and the first co‑op housing project in North America. Kyte will discuss how this connection led to her play, Tompkinsville, the story of Father Jimmy Tompkins, Father Moses Coady, Joe Laben and the extraordinary people who transformed a small Nova Scotia town with co‑operation.
